84-year-old bicyclist dies after Interstate crash in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A bicyclist has died from injuries he sustained in a traffic accident Tuesday night.

Sioux Falls police say Kenneth Gunderson, 84, died from internal injuries Wednesday morning. The crash happened at about 7 p.m. on Tuesday when a pickup hit Gunderson at an intersection of Interstate 29 on the northside of Sioux Falls.

The driver of the pickup is not being charged with the incident. Authorities say that the driver had a green light, and Gunderson rode into the intersection on a red light.

Authorities say the incident is a reminder that cyclists must obey the same laws as vehicles when they are using the roads. It is also important for drivers and cyclists to be aware of each other and use caution.
