81st Western Junior Livestock Show displays hard work, responsibility

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Western Junior Livestock Show continued on Friday at the Central States Fairgrounds.

The show, which is now in its 81st year, brings young ranchers from across the region to show their heads of livestock. On Friday, the show featured the dairy show, the goat show and the feeder calf show.

According to Western Junior Livestock Show Director Lindell Petersen, the show is a way to showcase the hard work that young ranchers put into their livestock and to show their work ethic.

“One thing that you cannot teach in school, you can’t teach it over the internet, that’s responsibility,” said Petersen. “That’s one thing that passes from one generation to the other.”

The show continues Saturday with livestock judging and award presentations.
