8 PHOTOS AND HIGHLIGHTS: Stevens opens the girls basketball season with a win over Douglas

Sophomore Taaliyah Porter led the Raiders with 20 points and seven rebounds.

RAPID CITY, S.D. – It might be hard to believe, but the girls high school basketball season tipped off Monday across South Dakota.

Rapid City Stevens opened the new year by hosting the Douglas Patriots.

The Raiders outscored the Patriots 34-8 in the second half and went onto win, 71-29.

Sophomore Taaliyah Porter led Stevens with 20 points and seven rebounds.

Macey Wathen finished with 12 points followed by Gabbie Love with 11 and Hailey Oswald with 9.

The Patriots were led by Keana Walton with 14 points.

Rayna Johnson finished with 5 points and 5 rebounds for Douglas.

Stevens will host Pierre and Aberdeen Central on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-10.

Meanwhile, Douglas will entertain Rapid City Christian on Dec. 10.
