77th annual Central States Fair kicks off
RAPID CITY, SD — It’s time once again for food on a stick and carnival rides with the arrival of the Central States Fair.
The fair board and staff officially started the festivities with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday afternoon and also welcoming new partners Monument Health at their newly christened community stage.
This year’s fair comes loaded with grandstand entertainment from motocross, demolition derby and the Extreme Broncs Rodeo Finals. Carnival Americana also returned with its assortment of exciting rides.
Central States Fair General Manager Ron Jeffries says, “It’s the championship for the Bronc match in all of the U.S. So we’re excited to be able to host that and excited that the PRCA entrusted us with that event. We follow that up with three days of exciting Range Days Rodeo and we end out the week with the Black Hills Energy Country series. Should be a great lineup.”
This is the 77th year for the fair, with 25 of them under the leadership of Jeffries. He says it’s the vision of the board and hard work from the staff that are responsible for it’s continued success.
Jeffries says, “Those relationships have blossomed into more opportunities for sponsors, more opportunities to host events and a great relationship with both the Pennington County and the City of Rapid City.”
The fair runs through August 27. For a complete lineup of fair events, you can visit their website here.
