74th Annual Central States Fair wraps up

RAPID CITY, S.D. — After 10 days of entertainment, games, and carnival rides, the 74th annual Central States Fair is over.

This year there was a 20% overall increase in attendance. Organizers also said that they received a lot of good feedback regarding this year’s Grandstand events.

The fair has become an end of the summer tradition for many families in the Black Hills.

“I think that’s one of the best things about the fair is the sense that it’s so much history. It’s generational, we have volunteers that are bringing their kids back to volunteer,” said coordinator Rebecca Bader

Each year the fair brings in hundreds of guests, which means that they also have hundreds of volunteers.

“We’ve got about 400 people that are volunteers that work for us during the fair. All those people come together along with our board of directors and our staff to make it a great fair,” said Ron Jeffries the General Manager.

The Fairgrounds will be completely cleaned up by tonight and the carnival will head to Texas on Monday.
