5 Things to Know about the STM boys basketball team heading into the 2022-23 season
RAPID CITY, S.D. – The St. Thomas More boys basketball team enters this season with some unfinished business.
1. STM has a goal of making it back to the state tournament.
After finishing the regular season with an 18-2 record last year, the Cavaliers qualified for the state tournament for the fourth year in a row.
Unfortunately, St. Thomas More lost to Sioux Valley in the state semifinals.
2. The Cavaliers have some holes to fill.
The Cavaliers lost three starters to graduation.
Senior guard Caleb Hollenbeck is expected to lead the team after averaging 14.7 points and five rebounds per game last season.
The other returning starter is junior Jordan Uhlir who averaged six points per game.
3. STM has five seniors on the roster this season.
St. Thomas More has a total of five seniors on the roster this season. They include Will Green, Caleb Hollenbeck, Matthew Larson, Easton Ogle and Layton Spratte.
4. The Cavaliers have height and athleticism this year.
Caleb Hollenbeck, who stands at 6’3″, was the second leading scorer for STM last season.
Meanwhile, Jordan Uhlir is 6’5″, Layton Spratte is 6’3″ and Lee Neugebauer is 6’2″.
5. St. Thomas More opens the season on Dec. 8.
The St. Thomas More boys basketball team opens the season on December 8 with three games in Gillette, WY.
STM will play Worland, Thunder Basin and Campbell County.
Then the Cavaliers will host Douglas on December 13.
