44th annual LNI to be held next month

A preview gathering was held Tuesday night at Prairie Edge downtown Rapid City.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — After a year off due to the pandemic, the Lakota Nation Invitation will make its comeback next month at The Monument.

A preview gathering was held Tuesday night at Prairie Edge downtown Rapid City.

This will be the 44th annual LNI and perhaps the biggest one yet.

It will take place in many of The Monument’s venues with athletics and other competitions spiriting camaraderie and goodwill.

More teams will be participating in basketball – 24 boy’s and 24 girl’s – with other events including volleyball, cross-country, wrestling, cheerleading, a poetry slam, a Lakota language bowl, and many others.

“It was so hard for our seniors not to participate in LNI last year and everything, you know?” said LNI Tournament Director Bryant Brewer. “We feel really bad, they lost a year. But this year, everyone’s ready to go, we still have the COVID problem and everything, but we’re doing everything we can to protect everybody.”

The dates for the LNI are Wednesday, December 15 thru Saturday, December 18.
