34 OST inmates test positive for COVID-19

PINE RIDGE, S.D. — COVID cases are on the rise in the adult offenders facility on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

According to the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Corrections, 34 inmates have tested positive for the virus, although it’s unknown which variant.

The OST DOC says that inmates and correctional officers are tested twice a week.

If a corrections officer tested positive, they would be sent home and a contact tracer would notify them.

The facility has Tylenol and nasal spray from IHS for each inmate who tested positive, as well as ibuprofen, cough syrup, cough drops, Sudafed and Imodium.

This is a developing story and NewsCenter1 will provide more information as it becomes available.
