33rd annual Black Hills Pow Wow kicks off Friday night

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The first winter storm hits just before the 33rd annual Black Hills Pow Wow.

“Visit Rapid City” said hotels have seen a handful of cancellations, but that most reservations are still in place. The pow Wow officially kicks off with the grand entry Friday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Pow Wow-related events start with a youth symposium Friday morning and continue all weekend.

According to the civic center, the Pow Wow has averaged about 6 thousand people each day for the past several years. Julie Jensen of “Visit Rapid City” said they estimate two-thirds of those people are from out of town.

“……..we’re gonna be just fine…be just fine,” said Julie Jensen.

There is also an event planned for Thursday night, October 10, to bless the arena for the Pow Wow.
