FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Stevens defeats Central for 2nd year in a row

RAPID CITY, S.D.  – The Rapid City Central Cobblers wrapped up the regular season on Thursday against their arch rivals Rapid City Stevens.

Stevens jumped out a 9-0 lead at halftime and the Raiders went on to beat the Cobblers for the second year in a row, 44-6.

Stevens extended its lead in the third quarter with three quick touchdowns.

First quarterback Jed Jenson scored on a one – yard touchdown run.

Then the Raiders followed that up with touchdowns by Julian Scott and Nash Sobczak.

The Cobblers finally found the end zone in the fourth quarter.

Jaxon Vermundson had a 92-yard kick off return for a touchdown.

It marked the 60th meeting between these two teams since 1969.

Stevens now leads the all time series, 32-28.

The Raiders improve to 3-6 while the Cobblers fall to 0-9 and are done for the season.

Stevens enters the Class 11AAA playoffs as the No. 7 seed.

The Raiders will travel to Sioux Falls on Oct. 27 to play No. 2 O’Gorman.
