3 dead, 2 injured in SD crash

WOONSOCKET, S.D. — Three people died and two others were injured in a three-vehicle crash that occurred east of Woonsocket Saturday night.

Just before 8 p.m. Saturday an eastbound Oldsmobile Alero was preparing to turn from Highway 34 to Highway 37. As it was travelling the Alero collided with a Chevrolet Trailblazer that was westbound on Highway 34. After the collision the Alero spun around and collided with a Chevrolet Impala that was at the stop sign of Highway 37.

All three juvenile male passengers of the Alero, aged 14 to 15, were pronounced dead at the scene. The 14-year-old male driver was transported to the Mitchell hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries.

The 46-year-old female driver of the Trailblazer was also taken to the Mitchell hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries.

The two occupants in the Impala were not injured.

Names of those involved are not being released at this time pending notification of family members.

No causes of the crash have been announced at this time. South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
