2nd annual Mountain West Beer Fest draws hundreds

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Beer lovers from across the Black Hills descended on the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Saturday to quench their thirst.

The second annual Mountain West Beer Fest brings people from all over to sample local brews. There were over 200 different craft beers from 50 breweries. The large selection of local beers lets consumers sample their favorite beers and try new ones that they might not normally buy.

“If you ever go to the beer store and you wonder, ‘What beer should I buy?’ Well maybe you should come here and try it and then you would know,” said Damien Robins, one of the attendees, “Otherwise you’re going to sit there and buy beer you don’t like.”

The beer fest was also a way people could come in from the cold and put on the proverbial beer blanket. People could also participate in games like human foosball and corn hole. They could also practice “Beer Yoga.”

Now in its second year, the beer fest has grown in size. Many of the attendees said that one of the biggest draws is gathering people who like beer all in one place.

“I bartended for a while, so I’ve served a bunch of these beers, which are totally awesome,” said Shyanna Bintlimf, another one of the attendees. “And so it’s really cool seeing all these people come together, trying all these different beers, being in one place together and just having fun.”
