24-year-old identified in fatal ski accident near Lead
LEAD, S.D. – The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who died Saturday while skiing near Lead.
Lawrence County Dispatch was called to Terry Peak Ski Area shortly after 3:00 p.m. for reports of a male that had struck a tree on the Gold Run. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful and Trenton Hofer, 24, of Brookings was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a news release Sunday, Terry Peak Marketing Director Linda Derosier said, “Management and staff send their sincere condolences to the family and friends of this young man.”
The fatal accident happened the day before Terry Peak joined the National Ski Areas Association’s #RideAnotherDay campaign. The campaign encourages skiers and snowboarders to slow down and be aware of their surroundings, mindful of objects and people.
According to Hofer’s obituary, a funeral service is scheduled Wednesday in Huron.
