2020 Black Hills Powwow and Games postponed until 2021 due to COVID-19

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Black Hills Powwow Association (BHPWA) Board of Directors has formally announced the postponement of this year’s 34th Annual He Sapa Wacipi Na Oskate (Black Hills Powwow and Games).

The gathering had been scheduled for October 9-11, 2020 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

According to a release from the BHPWA, in order to keep dancers, singers, and the powwow community safe during the COVID-19 outbreak, the decision was made to postpone the event until 2021. Another deciding factor was that the powwow relies solely on the generosity of financial donations and sponsors, and COVID-19 has had a significant negative financial impact on many of them.

The BHPWA will continue planning and organizing for next year’s pow wow, which will be October 8-10, 2021.
