2 people injured after being struck by vehicle on Mt. Rushmore Road

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Two people were injured after being struck by a vehicle on Mt. Rushmore Road early Thursday morning.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. when Rapid City police were dispatched to the intersection of Mt. Rushmore Road and Main Street. Witnesses told police that two pedestrians were trying to cross Mt. Rushmore Road on the north side of the intersection when a vehicle proceeding northbound hit them.

Authorities assisted the two pedestrians until a medical unit arrived and took over care.

Police determined the vehicle had a green light and the pedestrians did not have the right-of-way.

They did not note any signs of impairment in the driver, but impairment is believed to be a factor for the pedestrians.
