2 arrested after vehicle hits child in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Two people were arrested Saturday after the driver of a vehicle allegedly hit a child and drove away in Rapid City.

According to sergeant Billy Davis of Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, events began at Elk Horn Lane when a vehicle fled the scene after hitting four-year-old. The child was knocked to the ground but only received minor scrapes and bruising from the incident.

Authorities later found and stopped the suspect vehicle on Disk Drive after the driver allegedly hit two vehicles — one on Disk Drive and one in the Rushmore Mall parking lot. The driver, a 22-year-old woman, was arrested for driving under suspension, open container, leaving the scene of an accident and DUI. The passenger of the vehicle was also taken into custody because of a warrant issued for their arrest.

Three children were in the vehicle at the time of the arrest and were were taken into custody by the Rapid City Police Department.

Pennington County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incidents.
