1880 Train is full steam ahead

It was all aboard June 1 in Hill City at the 1880 train. Monday was the opening day of the 2020 season for the steam locomotive.

HILL CITY, S.D. — Monday, June 1, was the opening day of the 2020 season for the 1880 Train in Hill City.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, safety precautions are being implemented at the 1880 Train. They will be applying cluster seating inside the train. They will also be offering hand sanitizer, masks and gloves to riders if desired.

The 1880 train will be operating one ride a day at 10:00 a.m. from the Hill City station until June 15 and will add more departures throughout the season.

Meg Warder, President of Black Hills Central Railroad 1880 Train, says, “We are very excited … we actually have pretty good numbers, so that is encouraging for everyone in the tourism industry.”
