VA hospitals banning tobacco nationwide

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of Veterans Affairs is increasing the push for veterans to kick the habit by banning tobacco use at all VA health care facilities nationwide. The nationwide mandate will be put in place by October.

VA hospitals at Fort Meade and Hot Springs have set May 29 as the date patients, visitors, contractors, volunteers and vendors will no longer be able to use tobacco.

The hospitals have said that exceptions will be made for the use of tobacco in Native American ceremonies and traditions.
