16-year-old girl with life-threatening injuries after head-on collision with semi

PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. — An accident involving a car and a semi-truck resulted in life-threatening injuries for a 16-year-old girl.

According to the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, they received a call at 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday about an accident on 161st Avenue and Base Line Road, south of New Underwood. A car carrying a driver and a passenger was headed southbound when a northbound semi-truck collided with the car due to slippery road conditions.  The driver of the car was a 16 year-old girl and the passenger was a 15 year-old boy. The boy received minor injuries while the girl was moved to Monument Health Rapid City Hospital having sustained life-threatening injuries.

The condition of the driver of the semi, which was hauling a hay grinder, is unknown at this time.
