Culver’s locations donate to program honoring veterans service

RAPID CITY, S.D. — On Tuesday, March 19, Culver’s locations in South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota will be participating in Culver’s Regional Day of Giving.

Throughout the day on Tuesday, 18 Culver’s locations will be donating 10% of their sales as well as all donations collected at the counters to Midwest Honor Flight.

Midwest Honor Flight is a program that helps veterans travel to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to their service as one final tour with honor.

The Day of Giving aims to raise funds but also raise awareness to veterans who may not know about the program.

A Midwest Honor Flight volunteer will be at each location from 5-8 PM to help answer any questions about the program, or to help with the application process for veterans.

“We’ll have applications,” said Jim Bussell, Midwest Honor Flight Board Member. “If you’re a veteran of WWII, Korea, Vietnam or you know a veteran of those conflicts, and you think they would benefit from going on this flight, have them apply.”

During last year’s fundraiser, over $12,000 was raised which allowed 20 Veterans to travel to Washington D.C. in May 2018.

According to Bussell, the experience for both Veterans and volunteers is like nothing else. Bussell has traveled on three Honor Flights as a medic.

“To be with the Veterans, many of whom are in failing health, this is one of the last chapters of their lives,” said Bussell. “To be able to be with them and walk next to them as they see the memorials that are dedicated to their military service, it’s just indescribable.”
