11th South Dakota resident dies of COVID-19

Total cases statewide now over 2,200

PIERRE, S.D. – COVID-19 has claimed another life in South Dakota. A sixth person has died in Minnehaha County as the number of cases statewide has climbed to over 2,200.

One new case has been reported was reported in Pennington County. That and one case in Stanley county are the only two known active cases of COVID-19 west of the Missouri River. To date, only 29 confirmed cases have been reported West River.

According to the South Dakota Department of Health, there have been 2,212 lab-confirmed coronavirus tests, up 65 from Saturday. Of those cases, 1,257 patients are fully recovered.

Fifty-eight of the 65 new cases reported on Sunday are in Minnehaha County. That county has now had 1,854 cases of COVID-19. Of those, 1,013 are fully recovered.

An additional three people have been hospitalized, bringing the total currently hospitalized to 64. Since the outbreak began, 135 people have required hospitalization.

14,062 tests, or 86% of all tests administered, have come back negative.
