1+1 Winner: Catherine Ohlfs

NewsCenter1 and First Interstate Bank partner together twice a month to provide a $500 grant to local teachers and faculty members for their outstanding work. It’s called the 1+1 Giveaway.

This week’s 1+1 Giveaway winner is Catherine Ohlfs. She has been a first-grade teacher at Knollwood Elementary School for 6 years.

Ohlfs said she will be purchasing iPods that the class can use in their reading center.

“The kids love being able to listen to books,” she said, “and it’s important for them to help with their fluency and what not. So having something that’s easily accessible, where they don’t have to constantly switch out CDs into a CD player, would just make life a whole lot easier for all of us."

NewsCenter1’s Sales and Marketing Manager Anna Whetham said Ohlfs is an excellent teacher who sees the importance of literacy.

“She’s a great teacher,” Whetham said. “Reading is such a large foundation for these kids, especially at a young age. And so I think she sees how important that is and how having a focused time for them to be able to sit and read."

Ohlfs’ everyday, her goal is to send her students home happy and with knowledge.
