1+1 Giveaway – Tracy Benson

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Every other week, NewsCenter1 and First Interstate Bank team up to award a deserving area educator a $500 grant to help them improve and innovate in the classroom.

Tracy Benson has been the Information Media Specialist at Knollwood Elementary School in Rapid City for the past 4 years..

“I am very excited and surprised because I know there’s a lot of need in the community so I am honored to be able to receive this money and I know the kids are super excited too,” said Mrs. Benson. Mrs. Benson actually nominated herself for the “1+1 Giveaway” and she did so for an important reason. She said she plans to buy more Legos for the S.T.E.E.M. and MakerSpace Lab, “so that they can continue to create and collaborate and create things using those 21st century skills. We also try to incorporate art, coding, cooperative learning,” she added.

Brandy Arrington with First Interstate Bank presented Mrs. Benson with the $500 check. “I have never worked for a company that I have been so proud to work for. So I really appreciate how willing they are to give back to the community on a constant basis, not just at Christmas time. So the world is constantly changing and with that our learning experience needs to change as well. I think that being apart of that is really exciting and something that warms my heart,” said Arrington.
