1+1 Giveaway – Kim Johnson

HILL CITY, S.D.– During her more than twenty-year teaching career, Kim Johnson has taught at a few different schools around the Black Hills region, and different grades.

Kim Johnson And Her First Grade ClassHowever, she feels right at home in her first grade classroom at Hill City Elementary.

“I am very blessed. I get to see their a-ha moments every day,” First-Grade Teacher Kim Johnson said. “So I get to work with kids that are eager that are happy. That are excited about learning.”

Since being a student herself, she knew teaching was the career for her, fostered by the encouragement of her sixth grade teacher and a neighbor who helped her get to college.

Kim works to leave as equally an unforgettable impression on her students. A first-grade teacher whose kindness and dedication to her students helps them develop a strong foundation as they begin their academic journey.

Writing is one of the biggest things she works on with her students.

Everyday, they are given a writing assignment to complete: a five-sentence paragraph ranging from narrative, factual, or opinion pieces.

Wednesday’s topic was a factual piece on bald eagles, complete with an illustration to go with the writing.

As for her plans, she is still sorting that out, but is excited to finally be able to purchase the items in her online shopping carts and more fun things for the classroom.

First Interstate Bank’s Treasury Delivery Specialist, Nicole Knuppe, was also in attendance to see her receive the award, grateful for the opportunity to help Johnson and many other teachers.

“It’s so exciting to see the students get excited, the teachers,” she said. “They are so deserving of this. And I am happy to be a part of it.”

“I’m pretty fortunate. Right, guys?,” Johnson asked her students. “Yeah,” they replied in unison.
