100 MPH+ chase ends near Batesland; two arrested

BATESLAND, S.D. – A high-speed chase on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation Sunday morning ended in the arrest of two people.

The chase started in the Wounded Knee area. The chase ended just 15 feet from the Bennett County border. Speeds of more than 100 miles per hour were reported by law enforcement.

The Martin Volunteer Fire Department reported that the two occupants of the vehicle were fleeing Oglala Sioux Tribal (OST) law enforcement. They also said the suspects were highly intoxicated and may have been armed.

The two suspects were arrested by OST officers.

Their identities are not known at this time. It is unclear what charges they will face.
