$100 million solar facility project approved for Pine Ridge

PIERRE, S.D. — Lookout Solar Project has received approval from the state’s public utilities commission for a $100 million solar facility in Oglala Lakota county.

Lookout Solar expects the project will be 810 acres on Pine Ridge reservation.

It will include 500,000 solar panels with storage systems, access roads, and other required infrastructure needing to be built.

The property, being in pine ridge, had to be submitted for a landowner’s lease agreement and approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and sent to commission.

According to the commission, Bureau of Indian Affairs acts as additional oversight and protection.
