1 person dead after crash involving 2 semis in central South Dakota

MOUND CITY, S.D. – One man died Wednesday afternoon in a crash involving two semis in central South Dakota.

The crash happened two miles south of Mound City when a 2004 Peterbilt semi-truck with a 30-foot-wide load was northbound on U.S. Highway 83. A southbound 2014 International semi-truck struck the left front corner of the northbound Peterbilt’s wide load.

The driver of the northbound Peterbilt was not injured in the crash. The driver of the southbound International sustained fatal injuries and passed away at the scene. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Names of those involved have not yet been released pending notification of family members. South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
