South Dakota Senator John Thune introduced an amendment to the Veterans health and benefits act on February 27.
The amendment requires that prior to the closure of any Veterans Affairs medical center, changes and savings resulting from the closure must exceed the impact to veteran care.
This must also be certified by the Government Accountability Office.
Thune specifically mentions the VA campus in Hot Springs when saying that changes must benefit our veterans.
