Unique trike turns heads in SturgisPosted:
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally draws thousands of bikers every year. Some of their bikes stand out with unique personalities.
“The Mongrel” is owned by Chuck Doppler.
“I rode for 50 years and my legs were giving out, so it was either trike it or quit riding. Quitting riding wasn’t an option,” said Doppler.
With a love of riding, Doppler decided to build his own custom bike. After two years and a lot of patience, he finally completed the task.
“There were a few times when I was building that I wondered, ‘What did I get myself into?’ Because there’s no blueprints,” said Doppler.
Now Doppler is riding free, all over the country. He’s taken the Mongrel up to the Arctic Circle and across 45 states.
“I got to figure out how to put paddle wheels on it to get to Hawaii,” said Doppler.
He says everywhere he goes, people are always checking out his ride.
“I wish I had a dime for every picture that had been taken of it,” said Doppler. “Even when I’m going down the interstate, people slow and snap a picture out the window.”
You may see the Mongrel out and about during the rest of Rally Week, or somewhere else in the country.
