Crooked Canyon wildfire stopped at 3 acres

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters responded to a 3-acre wildfire off Crooked Canyon Road in Piedmont shortly before noon on Monday. The fire threatened two structures, but firefighters were able to save both without any damage.

Pennington County Fire Administrator Jerome Harvey says that winds helped carry the flames uphill over dry grass and timber. Harvey wants to remind the public that despite the winter, there are still fuels ready to burn.

"If you're looking outside your yard and looking out across the grasslands or here in the Hills, you definitely see the curded fuel bed that we’re experiencing here with the winter months and the drought cycle that we're in," said Harvey.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.

CORRECTION: The name of the road has been corrected from Crook to Crooked
