South Dakota Highway Patrol seeks more female troopersPosted: Updated:
BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) - The South Dakota Highway Patrol has been seeking to recruit more women to join the state troopers for several years.
Brynn Rist is one of only 13 female troopers that work for the state Highway Patrol.
Rist tells KSFY News that the job has its challenges, but can be rewarding as well.
Rist recalls several instances where she's pulled over a vehicle and the driver or passengers have expressed surprise that she's a female trooper. But Rist says she's treated with the same level of respect as her male colleagues.
South Dakota Highway Patrol Captain Jason Husby says they want to facilitate a conversation with women they're looking to hire and women who already work for the agency. They're hosting seminars across the state for recruitment.
