Teen victim identified in fatal hit-and-run in Box Elder

BOX ELDER, S.D. - The victim has been identified as Jaylen Twiss, 16, from Manderson, S.D.

Authorities have found the driver and vehicle suspected to have struck Twiss.

Law enforcement are trying to identify a man found dead in Box Elder. 

The man was found around 3:22 a.m. Thursday lying in the median on Highway 14-16 near Gumbo Drive.

Preliminary autopsy results suggest multiple blunt force trauma as the cause of death.

Law enforcement are investigating the incident as a vehicle-pedestrian accident. Investigators are tracking down leads on the vehicle and possible driver involved in the incident.

The victim has dark hair and is possibly of Native American descent. He's described as being in his late teens or early 20s, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 160 pounds. He was wearing many layers of dark clothing and a blue backpack.

Several agencies are involved in the investigation, including the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Box Elder Police Department, Rapid City Police Department and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
