Barn destroyed in Wanblee fire

There were no injuries related to a barn fire near Wanblee. But the barn appears completely destroyed.

Around 7 a.m. Wednesday, emergency agencies began attacking the fire, located 3 miles west of Wanblee on Craven Road.

According to the Pennington County Fire Service, items lost to the fire include a: tractor, baler, skid steer loader, feed wagon, pickup, some shop tools and other ranching assets.

The more positive news is that firefighters stopped the spread of the flames, keeping the fire confined to the barn.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Responding agencies included: the Wanblee Volunteer Fire Department, Pennington County 911, Kadoka Volunteer Fire Department, Long Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Oglala Sioux Tribe Emergency management and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Ambulance service.
