Rodeo contestants compete in trick riding competition

RAPID CITY, S.D. -

Sutton Rodeo is hosting the final qualifier for the Trick Riding 2018 North American Finals. Riders from 5 years old and up perform different tricks.

While many people think riding a horse is daunting, they’ve never seen trick riding. While the horses gallop at full speed, riders perform stunts. Like standing upright or hanging upside down.

Candice Aamot, a 9-year-old rider from De Smet, South Dakota, has been trick riding for 2 years. She explained the tricks she plans on doing during the competition.

"It's the Shoulder Drag, Running Man, and then I vault back into the saddle,” Aamot said. “And then I'm doing the Back Breaker and Shoulder Stand.”

The final day of the qualifier will be on Friday.

The North American Finals will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona with the date to be determined.

SD voters could change victim rights law with Amendment Y

Amendment Y looks to make changes to Marsy's Law that South Dakota voters approved in 2016. It added protection for crime victims, but law enforcement agencies, lawmakers and victim's rights advocates say the implementation of that law created some unintended consequences. And they're now trying to make some changes.
