Multiple fire crews respond to overnight structure fire

CUSTER,S.D. - Multiple fire crews responded to a house fire late Saturday night. 


The home at 12253 Bavarian Hills Dr. was totally destroyed by fire Saturday night. The home had 5 occupants, a mother and four children. They escaped the fire through a window, suffering only minor injuries. A pet cat remains unaccounted for.

Nearby homes were not damaged by the fire.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. A state fire marshal will begin an investigation into the fire Tuesday.

The family is receiving assistance from the Red Cross.


Custer Volunteer Fire Department requested assistance from multiple fire crews for a structure fire at 12253 Bavarian Hills Rd, in Custer late Saturday night.

Five occupants inside the home were transported to Custer Regional Hospital, treated and released. The fire was confined to the structure, but the structure did receive extensive damage.

No injuries to firefighters were reported, but temperatures during the incident were around minus 13 degrees Fahrenheit.
