RAPID CITY, S.D. -

Police say a Rapid City man died on Christmas, likely of hypothermia.

Alan Jack, 69, was found Christmas morning in the 200 block of East Saint Andrew Street. Bystanders had reported an unconscious person lying on the ground.

Police determined that the man was dead. They found no signs of trauma or other foul play.

An autopsy has been scheduled, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Rapid City Police Department commented on the tragedy with the statement below.

"We work hard to make sure everyone we encounter has a warm place [to] go. As much as we wish it were the case, our officers cannot be everywhere at once. If a member of the public observes someone in our community who appears to be in danger from the cold, they should contact us at 394-4131, and we’ll work to make sure they have a warm place to be."
