RAPID CITY, S.D. -

After winning only five games all of last season, the Rapid City Central boys basketball team didn't generate a lot of excitement before the start of the 2017 season.

But the cobblers are certainly generating excitement now.

The team has undergone quite a transformation, starting the season off with a perfect 5-0 record and ranked number five in the latest basketball polls.

Central put their perfect record on the line on Tuesday night as they hosted the Douglas Patriots.

Central dominated the first half leading 40-23 at the break. However, the Patriots opened the second half on a 11-0 run.

But the Cobblers were perfect record intact with a 77-70 victory over Douglas.

Kailleb Walton-Blanden led the Cobblers with 19 points, while Dylan Hay added 17 and Cameron Hall finished with 16 points.

Darius Dawson was the leading scorer for Douglas with 14 points.

Meanwhile, the Central girls rolled over the Douglas Patriots 77-38 on Tuesday night.

Abbie Freeman scored 26 points for the Cobblers who improve to 2-4 on the season.

Jeslyn Jindra was the leading scorer for Douglas with 12 points.
