2017 Lakota Nation Invitational Day 1

It's a high school holiday sports classic. The 41st annual Lakota Nation Invitational Basketball Tournament tipped off Wednesday at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

Sixteen boys teams and 16 girls teams are all competing for the coveted title of LNI champion.

The Pine Ridge boys opened the tournament with a 76-58 win over Omaha Nation.

Pine Ridge had three players finish in double figures. Halin Bad Bear finished with 24 points followed by Corey Blacksmith with 23 and Corey Brown with 17.

Meanwhile, the Custer boys squared off against Cheyenne Eagle Butte in the first round.

Both teams struggled offensively. But the Braves were able to rally in the second half and beat the Wildcats, 48-38.

Trevis Oakie from Cheyenne Eagle Butte led all scorers with 15 points.

The Red Cloud Lady Crusaders opened the LNI Tournament with a decisive win over the White River Tigers, 68-46.

Aaliyah Provost scored 17 points to lead the Crusaders, while Sierra McGowan was the leading scorer for the Tigers with 14.
