Woman, 58, identified as victim in fatal Hermosa fire

The latest on a house fire in Hermosa that killed one woman.

The victim killed in the fire has been identified as 58-year-old Diane Skelly. According to the Pennington County Fire Service, Skelly died of smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental.


Dec. 6

One person was discovered dead at a Hermosa home after a structure fire.

The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to the fire late Wednesday morning at 212 Vilas St. Heavy smoke was showing from the home. Due to weather and road conditions, the department called for more manpower.

Crews entered the home to check if anyone was still inside. That's when the deceased victim was discovered.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending investigation. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family members.  

Damage was confined to the home. No personnel on scene were injured.

The cause of the fire in under investigation.
