College Basketball: Hardrockers fall to MSU in conference opener

RAPID CITY, S.D. -

The South Dakota Mines women's basketball team rolled through the first month of the season with an impressive 4-1 record.

But now with the non-conference schedule in the rear-view mirror, the Lady Hardrockers tipped off league play on Friday by hosting MSU Denver.

The Roadrunners entered the game riding a four game winning streak.

The teams were tied at 27 going into halftime. But MSU Denver pulled away in the second half to beat SD Mines, 70-58.

The Roadrunners won the rebounding battle, collecting 40 while the Hardrockers came down with 24.

The Hardrockers were led by Sami Steffeck and Cooper Courtney who both scored 13 points each.

The loss drops SD Mines to 4-2 on the season. The Hardrockers will host the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs at 3:30 on Saturday, December 2.


Meanwhile, The South Dakota Mines men's basketball suffered a disappointing loss on Friday night.

MSU Denver edged the Hardrockers 61-58 despite 16 points from Jake Heath.

SD Mines will host the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs on Saturday, December 2 at 5:30 p.m.
