RAPID CITY, S.D. -

NewsCenter1 and First Interstate Bank partner together twice a month to provide a $500 grant to local teachers and faculty members for their outstanding work. It’s called the 1+1 Giveaway.

The most recent winner is Angela Pickett, a teacher at Grandview Elementary School.

Pickett was nominated by her husband. She teaches behavioral special education for third through fifth grade and she has been a teacher in the Rapid City Area School District for a year.

NewsCenter1’s Sales and Marketing Manager Anna Whetham said it’s a privilege to see a teacher who’s so invested in her students.

“It was really neat to see her excitement for the kids,” Whetham said. “When she was asked what she was going to do with the money that she won … she was just going to let the kids help her choose. And so it's neat - those teachers that are really invested in listening to what the kids want and how they want to learn and to be able to help with all of that."

She said she wants her students to know that she supports them.

"I want the kids to know that I am there to care for them, and I want them to be successful,” Pickett said. “[I’m] just happy that I'm able to provide things for them."
