Salvation Army accepting applications for Christmas baskets

Posted: Updated:

The holiday season is fully underway, and the Salvation Army is preparing for Christmas.

Applications are now being taken to receive Christmas baskets. Stop by 405 North Cherry Ave. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Nov. 6-10 and Nov. 13-17 to apply.

Last Saturday, veterans from the Rapid City Veterans Affairs Clinic helped assemble 2,200 baskets. Black Hills Area Coordinator Nathan Johnson said the baskets are going to be filled with a variety of items.

"An assortment of potatoes, gravy, bread - some kind of fruit,” Johnson said. “And then we'll get meat added - chicken or turkey depending on family size.”

People can donate by giving money to bell ringers outside local businesses.

The boxes will be distributed this December.
