WANBLEE, S.D. - A Wanblee volunteer firefighter and his family were killed in a motor vehicle accident over the weekend.

Waylon Red Elk, his pregnant wife Jaylene, and his 13-month-old son Waylon Jr. all died following a collision near the town of Sharps Corner Saturday night. Sharps Corner is on the Pine Ridge Reservation, west of Kyle.

The Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety and the FBI are investigating the crash.

Wanblee Fire Chief Jon Siedschlaw posted on Facebook about the incident Sunday (read below). Siedschlaw lost several family members himself in a fatal accident earlier this year.
