City parks officials advise that the bike path in Rapid City is open for business again. All barricades have been removed, including the bridge under crossing areas at Mount Rushmore Road and Canyon Lake Drive. They warn there is some water in these areas but have determined it is not restrictive for travel purposes.

RAPID CITY, S.D. -

The Mount Rushmore Road reconstruction project is in its final stages. The $30 million project is 12 years in the making.

Weather permitting, construction work on islands, turn lanes, curbs, gutters and sidewalks should be complete, with all lanes open by the end of the month.

Business owners along the thoroughfare hope the completion will turn Mount Rushmore Road into the grand gateway to the Black Hills, bringing in more tourists and visitors.

The project will be completely finished by June 2018, following minor cosmetic changes in the spring.
