Keeping calm and safe during the holiday travel season

Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, and this year’s holiday travel will be the busiest in 12 years. AAA is anticipating that nearly 51 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles from home for the Thanksgiving holiday. That's a 3.3 percent increase over last year. All modes of transportation, including car, bus, plane, and train will see increases in passengers. Many will see long lines, traffic jams, and delays that may disrupt their plans.

Pierre, Mitchell and Harrisburg all clinched a spot in the Class 11AA high school football semifinals on Thursday night.

Douglas was hoping to fill the fourth and final spot. But the Patriots were eliminated from the postseason on Friday with a 37-13 loss to the Yankton Bucks.

Garrett Tennant scored from one yard out on a quarterback keeper to give Yankton a 14-0 lead in the second quarter.

The Bucks then added a field goal by Cole Sawatzke to make it 17-0.

The Patriots finally answered with five seconds remaining in the first half as Trevor Severson punched it in from two yards out to cut the Bucks lead to 10.

However, Yankton outscored Douglas, 20-6 in the second half to pick up the win.

Douglas finishes the season with 5-5 record.
