RAPID CITY, S.D. -

Local hair salons are teaming up to give back to the community in a number of ways.

Owner of Planet Hair, Meghyn Cabot, had the idea to work with local salons for a coat drive to benefit the Cornerstone Rescue Mission, including their Women and Children's Shelter. With every winter item brought in - coats, gloves, hats, scarves, etc. - your name is entered into a drawing for a prize basket from the salon at the end of the month.

Participating salons are: Planet Hair, Salon One, Tangled Tresses, The Hair Force, High Maintenance, and Eclipse on 6th.

Collections for the Salons for a Cause Coat Drive will take place from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. each day until Oct. 31.

Planet Hair is also raising funds and awareness for the local nonprofit organization by selling raffling off Allegiant airline tickets. Proceeds from the raffle go to Chairlift, an organization that provides wheelchair accessible transportation at a reduced cost to residents of Rapid City and surrounding communities.

As a local business owner, Cabot sees the importance of community involvement. "We have such a platform being a downtown business. A lot of people see that we are here, and a lot of people know of Planet Hair. And we thought that it would be beneficial to the community to use our platform to raise awareness and just benefit people and help people."

The winner of the raffle with be picked during Planet Hair's open house on Nov. 4. You do not need to be present to win. The tickets are one for $5 or three for $12.
