Sturgis Police Department donate bike to raise funds for PAL

The Sturgis Police Department sure was busy during The 77th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, but they did find the time to give away one of their motorcycles Saturday.

For just $30, people had the opportunity to enter in a raffle to win a 2015 police motorcycle originally from the 75th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The funds raised from the raffle benefit the Police Athletic League, or PAL.

PAL offers programs to youth in the community, and they hope funds from Saturday’s raffle will help to expand and improve those programs.

"We start these programs and get these children involved not only with the community but also with our police department at a young age we can help deter some of our crimes some of our vandalism and give them that foundation they may be lacking and make them successful in life,” said Sturgis Police Chief Geody Vandewater.

The man who won the bike wasn't there to accept it, but they let him know he won it with a phone call.
