Attempted murder suspect to be extradited to Pennington County

RAPID CITY, S.D. -

An attempted murder suspect from Rapid City has been arrested in California, thanks to an anonymous tip.

Among other things, Zachary Ryan Moore, 23, is wanted for in connection with a shooting incident in Rapid Valley on July 23. ORIGINAL STORY

After a tip came through to the Sheriff's Warrants Division, authorities in Modesto, Calif. took Moore into custody on Aug. 10 as a fugitive from justice. Moore will be returned pending extradition proceedings in California early next week.

The Pennington County Sheriff's Office has extended their thanks for the community's involvement in the search.

Moore has an extensive criminal history documented by the Rapid City Police Department, including the following incidents:

  • He was sentenced to prison after a 2012 burglary in Rapid City.
  • In April of 2014, he was granted parole. A person on parole is still considered an individual operating under the authority of the SD Department of Corrections.
  • Moore has an active felony bench warrant related to a number of charges stemming from a June 4, 2017  traffic stop by the RCPD, in which he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and associated paraphernalia.
  • On June 23, Moore became listed as an absconder from parole.
  • On June 28, a vehicle belonging to Moore was involved in a pursuit with officers of Rapid City Police Department. The vehicle was located crashed and abandoned. The investigation into Moore’s involvement in this matter is ongoing.
  • On July 23, authorities believe Moore was involved in a shooting incident in Rapid Valley
