DEADWOOD, S.D. -

Wild Bill Days is underway in Deadwood. The event includes free concerts on Main Street, and many other events commemorating the life of Wild Bill Hickok.

Deadwood’s weekend of paying tribute includes top acts from Sawyer Brown and the Oak Ridge Boys. You can also check out the National Dock Dogs competition, learn the tricks of black panning and sluicing, or enjoy the Cowboy Fast Draw Championships.

“It is everything everyone loves about Wild Bill Days,” said Deadwood Chamber of Commerce Director Amanda Kille. “It is also all free here in Deadwood.”

The Cowboy Fast Draw Championships is underway and lasts throughout the weekend. A Fast Draw is a competition in which the winner is the quickest person to draw a handgun from a holster. Fast draw professional Boulder Baquero offers advice in mastering the technique.

“Fast is fine but accuracy is final,” said fast draw professional Boulder Baquero. “You got to be fast and hit the target, but a fast miss doesn’t get you anywhere."

The opportunity to learn how to fast draw will also be open to the public during the championships. For further details on Wild Bill Days or associated events, you can shoot away to the event page!
