CUSTER, S.D. - In this edition of Healthy Eating, Anya heads to the Southern Hills to check out a new restaurant.

With a quaint and cozy eating environment and a creative breakfast and dinner menu, Skogen Kitchen is serving up some notable entrees.

In an effort to spice up the food scene in the Black Hills, Eliza Belland and Joseph Raney opened up this unique restaurant. The pair has worked and learned from some of the best companies in the food service industry, such as Disney and Patina Restaurant group. Together, they bring their experience to Custer.

Skogen means "the forest" in Norwegian and is a nod to their heritage and current surroundings. Their menu is influenced by many cultures and includes farm-to-table foods that are chef-driven. Their goal is to create a unique and pleasant eating experience.

"I hope people come here thinking this is a great place to eat," says Raney, Skogen's chef.

Raney tries to incorporate fresh ingredients into all the dishes at Skogen. He offers a chef's special on the weekends.

And great food always pairs well with great customer service. General Manager Belland says their combined makes for a successful restaurant.
